This MATE option incorporates an LGBTIQ+ sensitive discussion around gendered/domestic/family/sexual violence, nuances and complexities faced by and/or within the community, and bystander approaches to prevent violence as a community member or ally.
The content educates participants on the dynamics that sit within sexual and gender diverse relationships and the way these dynamics differ from cis-heterosexual relationships. It also discusses how traditional gender binaries negatively impact those within the LGBTIQ+ community.
Importantly, participants learn how to be an active bystander to prevent violence within the LGBTIQ+ community and how to promote inclusive homes, schools, workplaces and communities.
The LGBTIQ+ workshop can be incorporated into a heteronormative workshop or it can be provided separately.
The MATE team can work with your organisation to determine the appropriate option.
The MATE team acknowledge and pay respects to the Kumbumerri Salt Water people, the traditional owners of the land on which our office sits. We acknowledge the Kumbumerri elders, past, present and emerging. We pay respects to all traditional owners across Australia where we meet, learn and work with others. MATE is committed to honouring Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas and their rich contribution to society.
