Event
Multicultural Queensland Month (MQM) – Queensland’s largest multicultural celebration – is held in August each year. As Queenslanders, we speak an incredible number of languages and dialects, and practice a broad range of faiths.
MQM is an opportunity for all of us to join together to celebrate our diversity and consider how we can put inclusion in to action.
MATE is facilitating two webinars across Multicultural Queensland Month (MQM) in partnership with the Queensland Government, so that we can discuss ways in which we can all contribute to safe and inclusive communities for all people.
The second webinar in the series is titled Creating a Culture That Supports Bystander Action. During this webinar, we discuss what we need to do to create a culture that supports bystanders. When we empower bystanders to say or do something to support others, we want to do what we can as individuals, workplaces and as a society to remove the barriers they may face. Often bystanders are afraid of backlash if they intervene therefore it is important to create safe environments and show that we can receive a message of accountability with respect and a growth-mindset.

The MATE team acknowledge and pay respects to the Kumbumerri Salt Water people, the traditional owners of the land on which our office sits. We acknowledge the Kumbumerri elders, past, present and emerging. We pay respects to all traditional owners across Australia where we meet, learn and work with others. MATE is committed to honouring Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas and their rich contribution to society.
